The League of the Sea

The sea has its observers, its caretakers and defenders. They reveal to us the secrets and history of the seas. They are also those who make it possible for the oceans to remain healthy and protected. They lend their voice to this enormous source of life – they make a difference and inspire us!

THE ARTIST OF THE SEA

Mariano Torre is an actor, singer and film director. The sea is his source of inspiration; having been born on an island, surrounded by water and nature, is what led him to want to protect and look after our planet.

THE EXPLORER OF THE SEA

Dr. Enric Sala, National Geographic explorer in residence, launched the Pristine Seas project to find, study and protect the last wild spots on the ocean. Between February 12 and 26, this marine biologist led an exploration 90 miles southeast of Ushuaia to record the speed of fish, marine mammals, birds and cetaceans in the future Yaganes National Park – an area of 69,000 sq km.

THE PORTRAITISTS OF THE SEA

The kids of Beagle Secrets of the Sea live submerged in the incredible world under the water. They record and take portraits of what they see so that we can all get to know the life that inhabits the deep. By knowing we learn to love the sea and by loving the sea we can become aware and be part of change.

THE DEFENDER OF THE SEA

Agustín Matteri is an environmental lawyer at the UN. He gives nature a voice, defends and protects it. His struggle inspires us and his knowledge is a fundamental tool for the protection of our planet.

THE INHABITANT OF THE SEA

To Adri the sea is everything – it’s her home, the place where she chooses to live. She is an inhabitant of the water; she shares stories with the oceans and inspires us with her tales and her love for the sea. Let us give back to the sea all the gifts that it gives us and let us all be part of this change!

THE THINKER OF THE SEA

Claudio Campagna is a biologist and forms part of the marine program of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). He is a thinker about conservation and works to create protected marine areas. He tells us why the creation of Marine National Parks is so important.

THE PROTECTOR OF THE SEA

Santi is a biologist and works on CLT Argentina’s marine program. Thanks to Santi and many other scientists, we are able to know and find out about a very large number of things that take place in our sea and to connect with the underwater world.

THE RESEARCHER OF THE SEA

Alberto Piola is an oceanographer. He devotes himself to the study of marine currents and oceanic fronts, trying to understand the way in which these physical processes impact on the marine ecosystem. Thanks to Alberto and to all those who study the sea, we are able to know and thus connect with this underwater world.

THREATS

Esteban Frere from Birdlife International and Valería Falabella de Wildlife Conservation Society tell us about tthe threats and challenges the Argentine sea faces.
